F Stop Collaborate & Listen Podcast Appearance
A little while ago Wendy Bagnall let me know she had nominated me to appear on the F Stop Collaborate & Listen podcast, during the episode she recorded with the host, Matt Payne. When you appear on Matt’s great podcast you have to nominate a few people who you think should appear in future. Well… the latest episode was featuring… me.
I have to admit it’s rather strange opening Apple Podcasts, or YouTube and seeing myself staring back. It’s the first time I've ever done anything like this, and I'm very grateful to both Wendy for nominating me, and to Matt for having me on.
We spoke about my experience with photography, from childhood, through a mega university field trip to Borneo, through photographing a few weddings for friends, to where I am now. We focus (pun intended) on my method of creating images without post processing, and why this might be important in the modern world of AI and the need for truth and transparency.
We also cover a little of what drives me to create images, how I want to lever the knowledge from my day job to weave more environmental storytelling into my work, the creation of my book, as well as what the future may hold.
I ended by nominating 4 photographers to appear in the future, all of whom I'd thoroughly recommend you looking at.
You can listen to the podcast on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or even watch us on YouTube.
Brian Lackey - Brian’s YouTube videos are an inspiring mix of hiking and photography. Creating beautiful images in some national parks in North America and Canada.
Kyle McDougall - Kyle’s images really feel crafted, often using large or medium format film cameras, and finding interesting subjects like the Welsh slate industry or remnants of WW2 American air base artwork.
Stuart McGlennon - A photographer based in the Lake District National Park whose images really capture the feel of the place well, and authentically with subtle and appropriate post processing. A refreshing change in today’s world of landscape photography.
Christophe Jacrot - One of my favourite discoveries of recent years - Christophe’s work focusses on ‘bad’ weather, with a really unique set of images. His book ‘Lost in the Beauty of Bad Weather’ is one of my favourites.
If you’ve ever read the about page and wanted to know a little more then, you’ll possibly learn a lot more from this podcast. Matt’s series of recordings are a staple listen for me, they usually have some really insightful conversations about the hobby we all enjoy, and I'm so grateful to him for having me on - thanks, Matt!
I hope you all have a lovely Christmas and New Year! Thanks for all the support, kind messages, orders and emails this year, it really does mean a lot.
Best wishes,
Tom
