Hello!
I’m Tom Dauben, a freelance photographer based just on the edge of Dartmoor National Park, in West Devon. I specialise in creating authentic, images of landscapes, nature, and events, delivering genuine work straight from the camera without the use of post processing. No photoshop, no manipulation, just as it happened at the time.
You can read a little more about my process here. I’ve been following this approach since 2018 and have been perfecting it for myself, and gradually learning what it can teach other photographers by being more present and intentional with how images are created in the field without the option for adjustments later.
My clients span then environmental, outdoor, sports, retail, and automotive sectors. Explore my work with me page for sample images and testimonials.
Based on the northern edge of Dartmoor National Park, I often photograph its stunning landscapes with assistance from my border collie, Bentley. My book Dartmoor Unedited is available on my shop page, along with prints and other products I’ve created.
I am passionate about supporting local businesses in the South West, and you can find my products in a range of local stockists.
I also document travels and cultures from further afield, with galleries showcased on my portfolio page.
Environment and sustainability
With 20 years experience working in the environmental sector, I’m committed to sustainable photography. In fact, an appreciation for the natural world, and finding a means to engage with it more is one of the key reasons I got into photography. I travel to locations by electric vehicle charged with electricity sourced from renewables.
I strive for any products I release to be low impact, often carbon neutral, and am transparent about the credentials of each product in my shop pages. Many of my products are printed carbon neutrally, all use sustainable carbon balanced papers certified by the Forest Stewardship Council, and several are created with the use of vegetable inks to reduce chemical usage. Any packaging I use to send products to clients is recycled, recyclable or ideally both.
I’m a proud member of Nature First, the alliance for responsible nature photography who advocate for responsible nature photography. This is really important for me to ensure the precious habitats, species and locations I visit are left better than I found them, but also not put at risk by my work. I welcome collaborations with environmentally conscious brands and projects.
Equipment
Since 2017 I have been exclusively using Fujifilm X series cameras and lenses.
I started with the X-T1, graduating after a while to an X-T3 which is now a very capable backup camera. The X-T5 has become my workhorse, supported by an X-100V when I want a more minimal kit.
I use 3 legged thing tripods, Nisi Filters and a combination of Peak Design and PGY Tech bags.
You can read a more thorough explanation about the equipment I use, and some other things that I think matter about it here.
