Moor Trees

Moor Trees contacted me to create some images for them as part of their 25th anniversary year. They wanted a photographer with environmental knowledge to create some images of their young woodlands, plantations that are less than 25 years old. This was something I was excited to help with for two reasons; woodlands are amazing habitats - the more I learn about them the more i’m amazed at what they do. I was also attracted to the job as woodland photography is notoriously tricky, but having younger woodlands to work with would be an extra challenge due to the size of the trees relative to their surroundings.

As part of this commission I also donated some images to the charity to use for promotion of their work, and have since led a photo walk to raise funds for them.

My images now feature in their impact report for 2024/25, on roll up banners for public events, on printed sheets to help their woodland officers engage the public and landowners, and on their social media and online presence.

“We commissioned Tom to create a portfolio of images of the young woodlands Moor Trees has created. This was both to document the sites and also for use in promotional materials. These photographs have already proven highly useful in the charity’s annual Impact Report, for display at a summer celebration event, on social media and will continue to be used. Tom been incredibly amenable, capable and flexible to work with, fully understanding the challenges, limitations and opportunities that working on Dartmoor brings including tricky terrain, access and changeable weather. Moor Trees immediately made good use of many of the beautiful and diverse images Tom captured.”
