Central Dartmoor Farm Cluster
The Central Dartmoor Farm Cluster are leading a Landscape Recovery project. These initiatives are tasked with large scale, long term change to the environment of England to try and promote various societal benefits such as habitat connectivity, improved water quality, and reduced flood risk.
A collective of farmers and landowners on Dartmoor have formed the Central Dartmoor Farm Cluster, and have been successful in receiving funding for one of these amazing projects. They have a two year development period to work out what they have to achieve, where to deliver it, and how to fund it.
To convince people that change is necessary I was commissioned to create some images for the project to depict the lack of biodiversity in many areas of the high moor. It was an intriguing commission, going to photograph something that isn’t there, as opposed to seeking out what is. It was also needed within a very short timeframe to launch their new website. This required me to get creative, to show images or a landscape that might be perceived as ‘boring’. But that was the job - to show the emptiness, to show the potential for change and restoration and, therefore, that the project has a real purpose. The images have been used to update the project’s website, in local media features to raise awareness of the project, and will be used to drive change in the National Park.

“Working on a Landscape Recovery on Dartmoor we needed a wide and varied bank of images to showcase our unique landscape and to help explain specific features. Tom provided us with a quality array of exactly what we needed because he understands the landscape and what we are hoping to achieve. I would highly recommend Tom”.
